Central Pain Syndromes

The result of damage or dysfunction of the central nervous system, a central pain syndrome varies among individuals due to the wide scope of possible causes. Central pain syndromes can be caused by multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, tumors, stroke, or brain or spinal cord trauma.

Pain may be localized or widespread, depending on the cause and source of the central pain syndrome. Our pain management specialists will administer a careful evaluation to determine the exact cause and level of pain the patient is experiencing. Only then will a comprehensive treatment program be used for the patient and, depending on the severity and cause of the central pain syndrome, may include any combination of pain medication, minimally invasive procedures, and alternative therapies.
