Epidural Steroid Injection

The epidural space is a part of the spinal canal that houses nerves running the length of the spine into the neck, hands, lower back and legs. These nerves can become inflamed due to pressure from a damaged disc, or the bony structure of the spine, causing a great deal of pain. The epidural steroid injection will provide pain relief, after decreasing the inflammation of the spinal nerves, helping the patient increase motor function and go back to daily activities. The medications injected consist of a local anesthetic and a depo-steroid, providing both short and long-term pain relief.
