Selective Nerve Root Block

If the pain in an arm or leg seems to follow a single nerve (radiculopatic pain), a selective nerve root block placed at the area where the nerve root exits the spinal column (spinal foramina), may be recommended treatment. The procedure may be performed on any area of the spine: cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (lower back), depending on the location and type of the pain. This nerve root block is an injection consisting of local anesthetic and a depo-steroid, injected under direct x-ray guidance into the desired spinal foramina (opening).
